A short analysis of the election

Friends and followers: As you will perhaps have observed Norway is on the brink of getting a new socialist government. Here is a short overview of the tragic outcome and some immediate analysis. Results are:

Non-socialist bloc:
* Conservatives totally crushed everywhere. Leaked to the Liberals (who were in danger of loosing all seats in Parliament) and to Progress party
* Liberal party: Winner but now out of government
* Christian Democrats totally crushed also. Bondevik is universally disliked obviously and now resigns from politics
* Progress Party: Greatest non- socialist winner with a rush of mandates. Will now be main opposition party aiming at government in 4 years

Socialist bloc:
* Labour: Greatest winner - obviously a lot of left-wingers vote on them tactically.
* Left Socialist Party: Lost a lot of seats, but will come into government for the first time in history
* Centre party: won some new seats and will for the first time be part of a socialist government.

Observers from other countries are confused because the economy has never been better. So why punish the government? But the EU membership is of course farther off than ever with Labour split, socialists and peasants fanatically against and the Progress Party uninterested.

What are the reasons for the Conservative defeat? Several, of which I believe the most important:
* We did not fight for our own PM candidate but for Bondevik. So his unpopularity cost us dearly.
* Some conservative voters voted for the Liberals, believing this would strengthen the non-socialist bloc!
* Many also voted Progress Party to convince the Conservative leaders that this big party can not anymore be excluded from a coalition. Bondevik has always hated the Progress Party, and they have answered with a huge campaign emphasising that "We will never support a non-socialist government led by Bondevik!"
* Finally, the good old "having been too long in government" syndrom.

The Progress Party won because of a lot of popular causes: Lower petrol prices, get the immigrants out - we are threatened by terrorists, "we are the greatest and still they exclude us" and so on.
So, we prepare to ride into the valley of the shadows, but with our heads lifted. Are we downhearted? You b...y beet we are !
